a square man hole cover in way of extension

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.53 PM

hello i am hoping to buy a ground floor masionette with the idea of adding an extension to the back. i was going to just follow the current width of the building however to my dismay there is a square manhole cover by the back wall which is bang in the middle of the would be wall i want extended. my questions are: 1. what are my choices? can this be moved? if so how much am i looking to spend? 2. realistically is my extension out of the question? can send pics. would appreciate some expert advice many thanks

If there are other manholes near by which, if neaded you can get into to rod your drains if they block up, if this is the case, as long as it is approved by the council/architect you could lintel over the existing manhole and build above. If not , it would probably be possible to move this existing one further away from where you want to build, it will be more work and more money, but you need to be able to access the drain if it blocks up. It won't stop you from extending. If in doubt get the building regs man out from your local council, show him the problem, he will tell you what he wants done if you do the extension. I hope that makes sense.

Hi normally you can divert the path of the drains for a fee or can the shape of the extension be altered , the manhole can be inside as well as outside. hope this helps Chris
