Plumbing

Water leaking over bath after shower through kitchen ceiling.

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

My tenants had a leak, after a shower, which was coming down the left hand corner of the bath onto the floor and through the kitchen ceiling. I bought a glass shower screen but this did not help. I had the corner siliconed which stopped the leak there but then the leak moved further down the shower screen along the side of the bath and dripped over there. I then siliconed the whole of the glass screen to the bath, at a slight angle just at the end of the screen, so if it dripped further along it might go back into the bath. The tenants said this had stopped any leak along it but that the leak now was coming over right at the end of the glass panel and dripping down from there. I'm at a loss what to do now to rectify this, its not just a small drip either every time they shower, it is coming through the ceiling onto the kitchen floor. I have checked and there are no leaks coming from anywhere else it is only from this. Any thoughts on how to rectify this without pulling the bath out?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

to hunt a leak under the bath, is easy, if is a new bath fitting , may sure is level, ok is level, and close to wall(tile) take off bath cover, use lamp good light, and turn water hot and cold, spaying along side of silicone, check p trap, spraying inside bath overflow ,check inlet hot water pipe, and cold water pipe, (ok) if is not leak under the bath, them spraying, the water in the wall tile, maybe, no grout, or can be a tile broken, under the bath mus be a sign of water, easy piece cake

Hi Did you fill the bath with water prior to fitting the screen this takes away the baths natural movement, you then set the screen approximately 10 mm off the top of the bath , you would possibly had a plastic / rubber clear seal to fit the the bottom of the screen this in turn allows the bath to rise and fall when in use but maintains the waterproof seal . If you did have one with the screen check the bath movement by filling it with water ,, I believe the seal is parting when a person is stood in the bath . Regards I hope this helps

Seems you have located the leak to the shower screen only. Likely the screen has a poor seal (a lot do). New deeper closing seals can be purchased and slid on to glass. However when you say water is now travelling along screen and off the edge of bath have you checked the bath is level? i.e if the bath slants back this will allow the water to travel along the seal back out onto the floor. Runner a level across it and if ok try a deeper seal or a shower curtain.

It actually sounds like your bath is not level and the water is just running the easiest route down

Everything the other plumber sead is right but if it's only leaking when you have a shower its more likely to be the bath is moving down when you're in having a shower try and fill bath up with water then spray water on the screen and silicone round bath then check underneath bath
