How to lay a patio on a sloped garden?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

I’m a total beginner so thought I’d ask here. I’m looking to lay a patio but my garden has a slope going downward toward the house, I understand id need the slope to go the other way (away from the house) but will mean I’d have to dig alot out to try and make it level. How would I get round this? Also I’d probably end up digging lower then my concrete fence sleepers at the top of the garden, would that mean I’d have to get them moved aswell? Thank you Ryan

Hi Ryan it might be possible to install a gully drain running to a soak away along the front of the house rather than having to slope the patio away from the building. It's never ideal t have water running towards a building but sometimes it's not practicable to excavate a sufficient slope to run water away from one. There are a number of guidelines and conditions that need to be considered when installing a soak away to ensure its compliant with SUDs legislation and building regs so it will definitely be worth contacting a professional landscape gardener or landscape architect for some advice. Hope that helps.

The patio could slope towards the house You could consider an acho type drain (plastic or resin ) Linked into down pipe if it’s present as it’s surface water
