heavy porcelain tiles 5kg each

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

Large heavy porcelain tiles 5kg each ....can they go onto emulsion painted surface.? Emulsion Matt painted onto fresh skimmed plaster over 14 years ago. which will be sanded, scored, & primed with acrylic binding agent. I'm doing a feature wall in dining room.. 7 tiles high 236cm & 2 tiles width ..total 200cm" so tile area coverage will be 4.75m sq. Thanks for any advise

Tiling on plaster Including the adhesive and tile it must not weigh any more than 20kg per square metre This is a recommend by BSI and adhesive manufacturers Plaster 20kg Plaster board 32kg Wedi board 40-60kg depending how it’s installed Render 80kg It’s not worth taking the risk as if they fail it could cause serious damage and injury

The wall has to be stripped back to the plaster. Then keyed , primed so ready for tiling. You can not stick to paint ! If the board underneath the plaster is plasterboard then the weight bearing per m2 is only 24kg. A stronger alternative would be recommended , to replace the weight bearing . Then the right adhesive for large format tiles .

Use Tile masters pro grip primer as it has a grit in it so leaves a rough (keyed) surface and has ultra strong bonding strength! And use a decent powder adhesive such as ultra tile fix pro flex s2!
