Lining paper gaps

How do I create a smooth finish and fill the gaps in lining paper? I've tried putting filler in the gaps, smoothing it down, letting dry and sanding. However, when I've painted over the seams are really, really obvious! Where I've sanded the filler is super smooth and just draws more attention to where the gaps were. It's driving me mad! Please can someone help me and advise on what I should be doing! Thank you 😊

when cross lining i always leave a 2mm gap between lengths of the paper, when dry fill with polyfilla (boxed filla) with a flexi scraper 1" then when dry light sand with wet and dry paper. give the area you have filled a thin coat of paint thus taking away the suction in the filla,when dry all areas 2 coats of emulsion,never had any problems with this method.

My answer would basically the same, in that cross line leaving a 2mm gap, before filling, apply 1 coat of the wall paint to the whole wall and once dried fine fill the gap and then once this has dried, lightly sand then touch in using the wall colour on the filler and apply a 2nd complete coat to all of the wall. firstly make sure not to overlap your paper! Run some decorators caulking down the joins then wipe off excess with a damp cloth,it should be ready to paint over after a couple of hours.

Well sticking can b a problem, all depends on the surface u are papering, and the budget of the client, if thay whont glass finish then a nice skim , by a good spread, works wonders, but if decorator is left to strip back to old wall , and prep as best he , or she can, and line out , then yes some areas,( due to shrink edg ,will need a well mixed tetrion filler, smooth), and carefully rubdown @spoted in , then finish cote, job done😅
