Change the boiler - before or after rest of renovation?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

Hi, So I am getting my downstairs renovated - chasing pipes, new flooring, new kitchen, electrics, removing a wall to make a large kitchen diner. In the new kitchen diner this will include removing two radiators and putting in wet underfloor heating. I have a trusted gas man who I want to change the boiler. I was thinking of doing this after, to make sure the right boiler is installed to fit the setup. Now I am doubting myself. The boiler is outside of the renovations (it is at the front of the house in the outside cupboard), so won't impact any work being done.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Get the boiler changed first. Tell the installer your plans so that they know what type of unit to install to accommodate your system. That way you don’t have trades coming to do work after the renovation. The decorater should be the last person in the house during a renovation.

I would leave it until last during a renovation to save it getting damaged, but before the painter starts. In a new build it would be fitted on a plumber 2nd fix.

Get the plumber to run the house temporary once all the renovation works done all the new work will have the pipe works run to the new boiler when it’s going to be installed plus you will need a valve for the underfloor heating he can then draindown the whole system flush it through put a new boiler on and give it a gas Certificate
