Plumbing

Summer House Toilet

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.29 PM

I would like to install a toilet and sink in a summer house in the back garden, currently no plumbing is extended to this building, I have found Sani-flo products which could work with a cold only sink. Advice and recommendations appreciated.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Sani-flo’s are good for certain installs. On certain occasion it’s worth extending the drain. It saves money in the long run, as Sani-flo’s are expensive to purchase, install and repair.

A saniflo should only be used within the property they are not designed to pump for long distances outside the property. The two normal methods are to either extend the existing drainage or if the garden room is below the level of the main drain the installation of a domestic sewage pump and sump will overcome the issue. Depending on pump type they can attain more than 200m distance and 25 m of lift

Do not fit a saniflo where it is possible it could freeze.

I would advise getting a couple of quotes for breaking into the sewer system and adding a conventional toilet. Saniflo's do have their place but only if no other option is available, expensive to buy and repair. Also, care needs to be taken when in use, certainly no toilet wipes in numbers. The other consideration is the work involved in taking the discharge pipe to the soil stack.
