Rendering a single skin block wall
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.29 PM
I’m thinking of rendering the inside wall to my single skin block wall shed, should I use febmix or waterproofer? , I’ve been told the external first coat febmix only, top coat waterproofer and no feb, is this ok?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

For external sand and cement rendering
The best best practice is to use Febmix in the 1st coat but read the instructions and do not use to much.
For the 2nd (top coat) add the waterproofer and again read the instructions.
However you may need to add some Feb depending on the quality of the sand you are using.
When you order your sand make sure that you ask for rendering sand and not just building sand because there will be a big difference in the finish quality.
Hope this helps

Over the years the different house builders and council authorities have given us different specs of what they prefer us to use . Generally we use waterproofer for the both coats that’s what every one prefers . Some of the old school builders prefer to use feb in first coat and waterproofer in top , either way is no problem

Personal preferance . I always use waterproofer in the scratch coat as well to ensure you get an even rate of suction in the top coat which will give you more working time to achieve a better finish.
