Can I out lino on top of tiled/state floor?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.49 PM
I have a state/tiled kitchen floor. Wanting to put a lino down instead as the tiles are bumpy and I have a young child who is starting to walk. Is it possible to put lino and underlay on top of the tiles or will they need to be taken up first? Thanks

If you fit a vinyl on a tiled floor after some time the tiles will show through. Best thing to do is lay a screed.(A self leveling compound) .Available from b and q .

Hi! You can have a smoothing compound applied to the tiles and then the vinyl flooring. If you try and take the ceramic tiles up you will have a solid residue of tile adhesive which you would have to chisel up and you would never get it flat enough for the vinyl to go over, so then you would have to have smoothing compound applied anyway. I would definitely go for the first option but have a flooring professional do it for you as it is not a DIY job and there are only certain smoothing compounds that will adhere to ceramic tiles.

use a green primer, for non-absorbent surfaces, after 2-3 hours put latex with fast drying, because it is not a large surface, after 6-8 hours put linen, or pvc, what do you have, Close the edges with a silicone ... success!

You can do it but the existing tiles floor would need to be screeded preferably, if you're on a budget however you could fill the grout lines with a filling compound, however its not ideal
