How to fill cracks in bathroom paint/lining paper

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

My bathroom was decorated about 10 years ago and friends in the know have told me they clearly didn't use the right materials/paint. There are a substantial number of cracks in the plaster wall above and next to the shower due to moisture build-up (the bathroom has no windows and a very weak fan that stopped working years ago). I can't tell if the cracks are in some kind of lining paper or in the paint itself but you could get your nail under some of the edges where it's almost raised up. I'd like to repaint the bathroom while in lockdown but would like advice on how to sort out the cracks and then what type of finish to use (ideally a Dulux paint as I'd like to apply the same colour as before). Many thanks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, I would scrape back what damaged lining or paint that is loose. I would then sand down the edges to blend in and refill with filler. Then sand refill and repeat till smooth then paint. Will look as good as new

When a crack like this appears you need to neatly cut back lining paper either side leaving maybe cm gap either side and joining at end of crack to make a rectangle. Strip offlining back to bare plaster rake out the crack make it worse so then use easy fill right over crack and filling rectangle you created perfect
