Tv turning on and off in living room only

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

My tv shuts down as soon as you try to engage it with the remote but when plugged in to another other room other thank the living room the tv works perfectly fine. Naturally I initially assumed the tv was at fault but now suspect a power issue as there is nothing else different, could low power or fluctuation of power be at play here? Update - thanks for the replies, weirdly after 2 days of tv not working it mysteriously worked fine last night, I haven’t rectified anything, the issue was with every socket in the living not just isolated to one outlet. I did check the wiring on 3 of the outlets and found loose neutrals on 2 of them but this didn’t cure anything, I will be contacting an electrician to come and inspect the wiring (as it’s quite old) I just wanted to see if this was possible to happen to TVs etc as I’ve never had anything like this before and convinced there’s a poltergeist involved (joking obviously)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It possible that there’s a loose connection in the socket behind the tv . That would be the first thing to check and the cheapest !

Hi. You correctly removed the T.V. from a suspected faulty electrical socket, based on your description of the event. The T.V. appears to work well in another socket in another room. It will be a good idea to ask a Competent Electrician who is Part P Registered to inspect and test your suspected faulty socket. This is more than likely to be at a cost to you and a socket replacement maybe a possibility. Let the electrician take a look at your T.V. plug and cable too, this is likely to be a visual inspection. I must request that you ensure the suspected faulty socket is NOT used until further instructions from the above electrician, please.

Hi, I'm james I would say this is a power problem. it could be a number of things. But the cct itself in the living room 1. It could be a faulty socket front or wiring to the socket. 2, what other items do you have on the circuit items that may have a leakage current of 10 ma or more, which could include computer equipment or even dish washers, washing machines with a little low on insulation resistance but not enough to trip an rcd could effect the TV. 3 try the socket first, then after that the circuit would need to be tested, as the fault will then be on that circuit
