Fire on internal wall

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

Hi all, I hope you're well. Potentially a stupid question, I really don't know. Is there any clear problem with affixing a wall-hung electric fire to my (hollow) wall between the living room and staircase? Current plan is for fire and TV on that wall then a huge settee opposite so that there's more floor space for me to use my wheelchair indoors. Don't want to spend the money and find out my house will burn down if I do it though!! Thank you in advance! Kirsty

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A wall hung electric fireplace can be installed on just about any wall, similar to a piece of artwork or a flat-screen TV. With both options, you'll first need to decide on a suitable location that isn't susceptible to moisture. It also needs to be in an area that’s a safe distance from high traffic areas, furniture, and curtains. Before you start the installation process, carefully read the instructions, including the warnings, that came with your electric wall fireplace.

In addition to abiding by the manufacturers installation instrucations relating to positioning and loading it is important to make sure that you have adequate fixings to support the weight, which might involve installing wooden noggins within the wall to support the weight is you are unable to obtain fixings on the vertical wooden structure of the wall.

Agreeing with previous answer, you can mount the fire anywhere but I would just be mindful of things that may be succeptible to heat damage, so long as your TV is not directly above the fire it should be fine.

To add what has already been said if the wall you are fixing to is just plasterboard you might want to rethink what you are planning. Over time these will appliances will work loose with people touching then, leaning on them. If you can get at least two fixings in a noggin much better. If not you may want to remove the skin reinforce the back then replace marking out where you want to fix to. Come across too many TV's hanging on for dear life!
