Removed the door to my oven and can't screw the hinge plate back

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

Hi, I took the door off my oven (Leisure Alta) to replace a handle. To do that, I had to remove the top hinge plate which was preventing me removing in the door. I've gone to screw it back in, but the screws just aren't screwing into anything - just turning and turning. Is it possible there were nuts at the back before which have now fallen away somewhere inside? I don't know if I'm now facing the prospect of having to somehow remove the entire oven insert in order to see the back side of this and find the nuts. Any advice hugely welcome! Update: I've now fixed this. Recording the fix in case anyone else has the same issue. As I suspected, there is a receiving plate on the backside of the oven face which the screws screw into. Once the screws are taken out, it falls down. You need to take out the four corner screws for the oven front, then use screwdrivers or chisels to pry the side open enough to peek in. From there you can use thin tools to wriggle the plate back up and hold it in place as you screw the hinge back in. It's a huge pain, but doable.

There are no nuts involved, make sure the front and back of the door are lined up correctly and hold the front up against the back firmly and the screws should reach if lined up as before.

As the customer advised on the update, there is a floating plate that will fall if both screws are taken out.Taking the side panel off is the only way to get the plate back in place
