What sand for the base of an above ground pool?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.48 PM

I have recently purchased a 3800L above ground pool. I have a very oddly landscaped garden since we bought the property. We have a patch in the middle in a semi-figure 8 shape and pebbles around the rest. As a result the grass isn't shaped enough for our pool which is 3m x 2m. I am looking at laying down a sand base in part of the garden to accommodate this for the pool to ensure it is level. Would grit sand be okay to use? Or would it specifically need to be soft building sand? I will have a ground mat above the base to further prevent damage to the bottom liner of the pool. Given the times right now it appears near me grit sand is in easy supply thus relatively affordable whereas building sand seems almost double in price for the quantity i'd need (a bulk bag).

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Sand with small pieces of grit would be fine, level it and compact it sufficiently to prevent any settlement. Just to be sure I would double up the sheet between the bottom of the pool and the sand just as an extra precaution. The water alone weighs 3.8 metric tonnes but it will be fine.
