Can you lay laminate over self adhesive vinyl tiles?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.31 PM

I've tried taking up these vinyl tiles but it is a pain and every one of them leaves glue on the floor which is also a pain to get off. Can I put underlay on top of the tiles and then lay laminate flooring? Will I run into issues?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Just of interest how old are the vinyl tiles because some of these contain asbestos.

Hi, you can lay over tiles providing they are well stuck. (If they come loose, they may move around underneath the new laminate) The buggest issue you will have is the slight difference in level between the area that still has the tiles, and the area of which you have removed the tiles. Hope this helps!

The short answer is yes you can lay underlay on top of these tiles. Just be cautious though. Depending on the age of the tile there could be traces of asbestos.
