Is it possible to hang a 48 inch or bigger on my wall
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.31 PM
My wall is plasterboard, it would be the outside wall (no house the other side) and I want to put my tv on the wall is this possible to do myself? I’ve looked online and I can buy GRIPIT but wondering if it will actually hold the tv or not?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Of course.
There are a number of ways to get a secure fixing on a wall, not always necessary to purchase a costly job specific item either.
If it is an outside wall then the options will be better.
Does the TV come with a mounting bracket? It would be useful to know the size so a plywood “patrias” can be pre cut prior to a site visit and the TV hung quickly with minimal effort and mess.
Hope this helps.

If it is an outside wall the plasterboard will be attached to the wall either by batons or adhesive. Bear in mind the you need to support the weight of the TV which could be 12kg upwards and also the vesa mounting bracket. I would not solely rely on the plasterboard to carry that load.
You need to get the mount fixings into the solid wall. Options are if you have a gap between the plasterboard and wall then cut away the plasterboard to get a piece of timber screwed to the wall and flush with the remainder plasterboard that you hang your mount off. If no gap between plaster and wall then fix a piece of ply under the mount and get longer screws to penetrate into the wall.

If its an outside wall, then it can be drilled and rawlpluged, if not there will be studs every 400 to 600 centres, or an alternative would be toggle bolts

You could use a long frame fixing screws so you get in to the brick wall behind the plaster board.
