Birds getting into Eaves between Underlay Felt Support Tray and Roof

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.31 PM

Hi All, I have birds getting into my roof space, in between the Underlay Felt Support Tray and Roof. I went up there to investigate and it looks like that when I had my soffits etc installed a few years back, the installer didn't put in a filler in between the tray and roof... Trouble is, I have a 3 metre wide pitched conservatory at the back and I am facing it out of the scope of DIY to retrofit these above. Is the only way to go, having scaffolding installed to prevent interference to the conservatory? I don't really want to risk standing on the polycarbonate roofing on it just in case! Thanks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would say that scaffolding is the only way forward, health & safety is essential. Additionally you should consider fitting bird stops, to prevent future issues with birds, once you have resolved the issue with the gaps.

2 ladders & a set of ladder brackets will allow you to float over the conservatory saving you the best part of £200 Comb fillers fixed too the top of the eave tray will ‘prevent’ Them a little bit, but ultimately... if they want to get in they almost always will. Especially now. Your likely to already have hatched chicks up there & shouldn't ‘officially’ Mess with them.

Yes scaffold is the way forward there is no point risking your safety, also bird combs should be fitted in between your fascia and tiles. Any tile with a raised profile will require bird combs and these really should have been installed when the fascia was fitted. Hope this helps.
