Turning Hot Water on turns Radiators on

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.31 PM

Hi, I've moved into a house with a gravity-fed system - system boiler in garage, vented cylinder in airing cupboard, and two tanks in loft. A few months ago we had an issue whereby radiators wouldn't get hot unless we turned hot water on. We had the valve in the airing cupboard replaced, which appeared to be causing the issue, and it worked as normal again. Now, we have kind of the opposite issue where whenever we turn the hot water on the radiators come on. Can it be the valve again or another issue? Any help appreciated. I've gone through previous posts so gonna give them a read now.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It sounds to me that it is still a valve problem either fitted incorrectly or just faulty or alternatively a control problem ie time clock not sending correct signal to valve, intake it you have a 3 port valve, I much prefer two 2 port valves, one for heating and one for hot water

If you recently had it replaced and you still have this problem there could be a number of issues: 1) A faulty valve 2) Valve could be fitted incorrectly 3) Programmer not sending signal to the valve

The valve could be at fault but if not there are a lot of gravity converted systems which still have one or 2 rads, usually in the bathroom connected to the hot water circuit meaning they will come on when the hot water cylinder is calling for heat, this can be rectified by turning the valves off on said radiator, or a slight change in pipe work. Or if the valve has gone again (unlikely), it will need a new valve.
