blocked off outdoor drain

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.31 PM

downpipes from house went straight down into a drain including all moss. There was no cover for drain it was just cemented all around the down pipe. 15 years ago I 'temporarily' blocked off the drain and let the surface water run freely onto the drive. I have now decided to do the job correctly (yes I know 15 years too late) and upon opening up the drain see it filled with water. What? After 15 years surely water would have dried out. I have a feeling this will be a job for a professional What's your thoughts?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Nothing wrong with the answer about jetting the drain but the reason there is still water in it might be that u have a combined sewar system which means your down pipes will have traps on them to stop the sewar smell coming back up the pipe hence water still in pipe, quite common in older buildings with fire clay pipes , best have someone look at it

Try with some rods first, might work out cheaper. Unless a trap or gully is fitted you will have to remove the concrete and dig down to fit one…..you might find the reason for the blockage when doing this.

Hi there as said before you would be best getting the drain rodded then put a camera down to see what’s going on if it is a drain just for storm Water they normally just run to a soak away or field drainage system as your not suppose to put atom water in to your foul drains
