Ponding on flat roof. Should I be worried?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.31 PM
I had a dormer refelted 15 months ago. The roofer applied three felt layers to the roof using what he said was a newer type of felt. Another roofer examining the main roof has told me there is ponding on one side. He said this is largely because there is no pitch. He said the seams are fine. Should I be worried?

A lot of flat roof don’t have enough pitch so they do puddle in places it’s not ideal to be holding water but the only way to stop this is to put more fall on the roof which can only be done by removing everything back to the joist and fitting a better ferrin as we call them I hope this helps

If the flat roof is completely flat then it will hold water it’s not a problem as long as it’s been felted using top quality mineral finish

It doesn't do the roof any harm having a small amount of water sat on it as long as it's not leaking dont worry about it

Not to worry there are many flat roofs & bolconys that holds water ..if the felt is laid properly & boards are not damaged it will b fine ..it must have been holding before..

Most Flat Roofs Don’t Have Pitch So They Hold Water On Some Places The Best Way To Stop It Is Remove Everything And Fitting Higher Ferrin But If It’s Done Right With Good Material And No Leaks Then There Is Nothing To Worry About

As most roofers have said a lot of flat roof hold puddles hence the word flat the fall should be at least 10% however I don't agree with the statement "don't worry about it " I suggest next time it rains time the puddle, once raining stops if the puddle does not dry up within 24hrs this suggests sagging not just holding water a puddle that drys up after 24hrs should have no problems as long as seems have been torched on correctly however a puddle staying longer then 24hrs will cause problems regardless hope this helps
