Using talcum powder in between hardwood floors

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.31 PM

Several hardwood floor boards have started to squeak in the kitchen. It has been mentioned using talcum power between each board can help quiet the boards. My problem is alot of the boards have no obvious gaps for talcum powder to get into, some boards appear to be wedged solidly against the next board. Is it safe to use a sharp knife to try to make a slight gap around the boards so talcum power can fit between them?

I would suggest a small amount then tap and blow it into the joints with a paint brush. If you try to use a blade to widen the joints, you may cause the issue to move along or damage the edge. The noise is likely to be from seasonal changes and or the central heating. If it is a minor amount it is more than likely to change at different times of the year. Good luck

I would suggest the floor has not been layed correctly in the first place, either to tight to the walls or not fixed properly.

Personally I have never experienced this working or would recommend anyone to do it you need to hire a heat sensor for floors find the heat pipes and screw the floor boards down where there aren’t any pipes it’s the only cure .

The previous answer is not wrong but if possible checking if there is any additional pressure from the perimeter may need to happen and rectified .
