Gas Works

Boiler firing up on timer but not coming on.

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

Good morning, I have an old Baxi Boston boiler which is not firing up even though the pilot light is on and the thermostat kicks but boiler pump not coming on and heating up radiators/water. Any ideas?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Could be a few things to be honest. If theres no circulation from the pump then the boiler wont fire. You will need a gas safe engineer to have a look. If nothing stands out from a visual check... then a multimeter will show them quite quickly whats wrong

I would check for a overheat stat holding off the thermostat, if there's no overheat stat then you will need a Gas Safe Registered Engineer to diagnose further. Baxi Boston is very old and obsolete so good luck with getting parts.

Best thing would be to get a qualified gas engineer to have a look diagnose the problem and get it done safely? Information requires electrical and component checks! Like pump? Programmer etc? Thanks hope this helps Peter

The pump is required to be operation for the water to be pumped from the boiler to radiators and hot water cylinder. If the pump is not working the boiler will fire up for a brief period and then thermostat on boiler will cut the burner off. If the gas valve on boiler is faulty then the boiler will not fire up and no water can be heated I hope this helps Yours. Colin
