How long after plastering/reskimming should i wait until lining paper?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

How long after plastering/reskimming should I wait until having the lining paper done? Majority of the room will be skimmed with one area around the window needing more plastering.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

With warm weather and good ventilation I would probably be happy to start painting after a coujple of weeks if it's just a plaster skim. It does depend on the conditions though and might take long to dry properly. With a deep plaster you should wait a few months before you paint because there will be moisture in there for quite some time. It's a nuisance needing to wait but if you paint too soon you will end up regretting it.

If it's an overskim then when the plaster is a uniform light pink colour. The corners take the longest to dry, some assisted airflow can help this. If its newly plastered why are you putting lining paper up?

You can paint the plaster as soon as it is dry. A rule of thumb I use is one week although this does depend on the time of year, humidity and ventilation. You can see quite clearly from the plaster appearance if it is dry. You will notice dark patches (usually at the edges) if it is not dry.
