Outside light replacement wiring up. 4 wires into 3 wires

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

I have an outside spot light which I have taken down and replaced for a new model. When taking the old one down I only disconnected the yellow/green wire and a sold yellow wire. And had a blue and red wire not connected. When buying the new light I have 3csections and dont know which wires to connect can anyone help ?

Without checking/testing nothing can be stated with any certainty. However, if wired by an electrician, under usual circumstances the cable colours would be connected as follows; Green/Yellow = Earth (CPC) Red = Permanent Live (L) Blue = Neutral (N) Yellow = Switched Live (SL) The above is generally industry standard markings. I am assuming that you’re replacing the old fitting as it wasn’t working? If so I think it likely wasn’t working because you state that the blue wasn’t connected, and I’d assume that would be the neutral, which would have to be connected. If in any doubt at all get it inspected/tested by an electrician.
