Popped ceiling screws across entire home

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

Looking for advice... Our house was built in 2008 and over the past few months, the screws are popping along every ceiling in the house, in rows and lines. You can see the outlines of the boards. It's especially worse in the living room where small parts of the lines are becoming very prominent and almost looks "pillowed". There seems to be more popped screws every day. We redecorated the whole house when we moved in 2.5 years ago and don't recall there being any popped screws. Could it just be the age and the house fixtures all loosening or could it be something worse? I haven't seen any concerning cracks anywhere but I didn't want to just get new screws installed if this doesn't address the cause.

Screws typically pop out of drywall for one of two reasons: they were installed too deep, or the studs have expanded and contracted. If you drive a screw too deep through the drywall and into the stud, it may pop out. ... Over time, the constant contraction and expansion of studs can cause screws to pop out.

Even in 2008 they still used nails when boarding and over time the nails work there way loose over vibration and weight.

If nails were used they should have been ring shanked. Plater board screw fixed using a bit that stops you going too deep. Sounds as if you need to refix all your ceiling board before it gets worse.
