Revamp of outdoor drain system - what trade?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

Hi, I just bought my first home and I want to have the out door drain system looked at and redone professionally but I'm not sure what trade to look for for local businesses. Also I'm not even sure what I want is even possible? Essestially the way most of the drains are set up the waste water just sort of drains onto flat concrete ground gutters and a very mild "slope" does a bad job of then directing it to the sewer grate (from the look of it and other things we've found during the reno it was DIY job). Unfortunatly in quite a few places the concrete lets the water pool and slope into the brickwork and its also shocking for collecting rbbish and leaves. I want if possible to have the concrete section pulled up (its like a 3-4 inch wide strip that runs along the sides of the house) and replaced with the sunk in the ground gutters with the metal grates Thanks! EDIT: Thanks for all your advice! Looking forward to getting someone in to sort it when all the lockdown shenanigans are over.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

From your description, it’s sounds like you want to have aco drains fitted to improve the drainage system around the house.I would suggest getting a groundworker/ general builder to complete works.

When Thatcher privatised the water industry she made no provations about waste water,so there is no law about it, You can dig in metal grate drains to flow away from your house or send it to a nearby drain like kitchen sink or bathroom drain on your property, it's not a difficult or expensive job , digging ,then sloping the grates for water to run the direction you want which is away from the house, should only be a 2/3 days labour plus materials, that would be my quote
