Height of Boundary Fence

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

We currently have a 7 to 8 foot high garden hedge on our boudary, adjacent to a public highway/footpath. On the same boundary we have a 14ft opening and we would now like to put some 6ft gates on here for privacy. The planning states that if you have existing height on such a boundary that you can replace with the same, given the fact our hedge is 8ft, can we put the gates on without seeking planning permission? Than you

Is better to use the same high you have now you can going against the planing permission. Plus higher then the fencing the gate will be more heavy and les manageable for you all the best.

I agree with the others, you can erect new gates up to 2 meters in height especially as you stay that your hedge is already higher on both sides. If in any doubt a quick call to your local council planning department will give you peace of mind.
