Sand down all areas until solid and the existing paint layers have been keyed - not removed completely (A smooth surface with no imperfections i.e flaky paint, imperfections and sheen from gloss has gone) Dust down with dusting brush Tack rag to get any remaining dust from surface Primer/undercoat Key surfaces in between coats with 240 grade sandpaper Spot prime if bare wood shows through after keying surface Apply two coats of your chosen finish (ie) two coats of eggshell (key surface, dust and tack rag after first coat of eggshell again to make sure no bits/imperfections will show when you apply final coat of eggshell)

Hi, yes you can paint eggshell over emulsion. But If I would saw emulsion on the wood work, I would sanded it down completely using power tools, and then paint with undercoat and two top coats. Regards, Pshemek

most important you have to make sure that gloss is sanded down before emulsion has been put, if its not then all paint after gloss (including emulsion) will flake off. i`d sand down all woodwork till gloss is sheen off and then apply preferable (any) paint.

To do it properly scrape the emulsion off the door as it will not adhere to the gloss so will literally peel off. Then sand the door apply either oil or water based undercoat , then 2 coats of your chosen topcoat.

Northern Decorating Services says yes you can but as previously stated I would advise against it as you don’t know how well the previous painting has been done,in my 25 years experience it will not be done correctly, primed, undercoated followed by a top coat.I would sand it back using a power sander, back to the wood, emulsion is not designed for wood and will flake off or chip off, gloss is not designed for emulsion.
