Damp Proofing

Help. Damp in the bottom corner units of my new kitchen!

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.40 PM

I moved in to my 1970's built ground floor flat 2years ago & had a new kitchen fitted at that time. Almost a yr later I discovered thick mold on the back boards of the lower corner units only. So I contacted Magnet to complain adequate ventalation had not been allowed for and an air vent on the outter wall behind those cupboards was obviousky unable to breath. Magnet agreed to came bk and fitted both additional ventilation in the kick board & cupboard. Whilst cleaning the wall and replacing the backboards. Now six months later I have just discovered green mold appearing in the same lower cupboards & I'm dispersing! Please let me know ur thoughts as I really don't know where to seek help. Thanks J

Hi, sorry to hear about the problems your having, I would have guessed that you have a condensation problem, hard to be precise without seeing the problem, most people think condensation forms mostly on windows which is wrong, the cupboard backs will be cold as the are close to the external wall. Try using a small plastic dehumidifier tubs that you can get from the pound shop, they have crystals in which absorb the mositure and should prevent the mould from forming, they need topped up from time to time, just place them in the cupboard and you should see them gathering the excess moisture and in doing so should solve your problem. Thanks Don
