PVC windowsil painting

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.08 PM

I have painted my PVC window sils but all the end caps are missing. Can I fill the end of the windowsills with some foam first, then paintable filler of some sort - Maybe car body filler? Essentially this would make them airtight, is this okay? or do the inside of the windowsills also provide water drainage out of the ends or are they just a hollow extrusion? Would the option above be suitable? I don't want to cause water blocking problems I have posted a previous question but it is not answered hence this repeat. *I do not wish to purchase new end caps for them. I am aware you can purchase these but don't want to buy new caps, I want to fill completely flush. Thanks Jane

You can fill them. There is no drainage through the ends.

Hi Jane, It's fine to seal up the ends of the cill as water shouldn't get inside it at all. Keep safe Rick Robinson

Yes you can fill them completely and won’t effect any drainage problems, the water drains from elsewhere..... fill with foam leave to cure then fill with an exterior paintable filler.... hope this helps

Hi water will not be coming inside through your sill board ,the drainage holes on your windows let the water escape outside through the external sill .

Yes you can do that providing that they are upvc cills and not aluminium as some aluminium cills do contain an internal drainage system. Hope this helps you Dean

Yes you can do this. The cill has no drainage purposes it’s just an hollow extrusion.

There is no drainage on the internal cill the drainage is on the window itself, if you want to go to the bother of filling the end caps it is entirely up to you could use a little expanding foam then trim it off and use another smooth material to finish.
