Patio base mix. Help please

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.29 PM

Hi I have asked a similar question and thank you for the help. Just wanted to ask. The sub base is un level and to level the base some areas will need 50mm base of sand but i think this is too thick and would sink over time. Question is if i make this difference up with a dry mix of sand and cement would it be sturdy enough to hold the patio over time as its a base for a shed. This is my first time doing anything like this and i made a mistake with the base but have already laid the sand all over the area so to remove it would be a big job. So hence my question. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You could screed the area with a 4 to 1 mix level with the rest and lay the slabs on top

Imo you should make up the sub base material to level before laying the slabs, use the same material, granular mot type material thats common in your area 40mil chippings down to dust or similar, then lay slabs on an even bed of morter.
