Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.29 PM

I live in a pub and want to paint the bannister Only in the same deluxe colour as the walls which is a royal blue. Unfortunately they don't do this colour in satinwood... please help Thanks

Hi Unfortunately the Matt paint won't stick to the Gloss if you paint straight on. Its best to sand it down first or use an extra sticky primer over the gloss, let dry and then paint on your Matt. Here is a google link with a lot more info on it; https://www.google.com/search?q=can+you+put+matt+paint+over+gloss&oq=can+you+put+matt+paint+over+gloss&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l5.6744j0j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Hope this helps. You'll also need to put varnish over the matt paint to protect it otherwise it's going to chip off and get marked too easily.

Dulux diamond satin can be mixed to any colour. It's perfect paint for the job you want to carry out. You will need to clean the handrail with sugar soap and then key the area with 150 sandpaper only a light sand. You can then apply a primer like zinsser bin which will create a base for your top coat of Dulux diamond satin.

Have you tried to get it mixed up in a eggshell finish which is more of a Matt finish than satinwood and sand down before apply the eggshell I would not use a Matt paint on a handrail it won’t clean very well at all Thanks Scott S j Morrish decorators
