When building any structure i always recommend to install a concrete foundation. even though sub base compacted it can still move and subside overtime especially when a lot of rain.

You need at least 150mm depth of concrete for the foundation. Along with a minimum of 150 of clearance around the brickwork to ensure that there is an adequate 45 degree sheer point angle to the bottom of the concrete foundation.
