Testing Central Heating inhibitor
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.28 PM
Hi, Once an inhibitor has been added to the CH system, how often does this need to be checked in practise to ensure its at the correct level/strength, e.g. using the Sentinel X100 test kit. If the system hasn't been drained and only the rads have been bled occasionally, how long would you expect inhibitor to be good for? Thanks

Hi I Always advise my customers to drain down every 18 months or so, flush system with clean water, drain once more then add another 500ml-1ltr (depending on no of rads) Then refill heating circuit. Note: every time circuit is drained new inhibitor is needed.

Hi Hawkeye
Inhibitors are added to central heating systems to neutralise PH of water to protect moving parts of system eg - pump?
All depending on the system type in question should draining occur so often??
Yes maybe an annual check of inhibitors a good measure - adding sentinel X100 concentrate should be fine..
Hope this helps.

It now has to be checked every year along with the service of your boiler.

allways refill with corrosion inhibitor if you drain or partially drain system,we recommend draining and flush every two years, refill with inhibitor, clean your magnetic filter at the same time,if you do not have a magnetic filter fit one on return pipework as near to boiler as possible while system is drained down.
