Living room circuit breaker keeps tripping
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.48 PM
Overnight my circuit breaker for the living room and entrance hall ring tripped and the main breaker for that board (there are 2) also tripped. It was at round 2:30 am, so was not the result of anything new being plugged in. I have since tried various diagnostic tests to identify if it is any one appliance, but on occasions it has just tripped with nothing plugged in at all. I did at one stage get a few items plugged in at 15 min intervals up to nearly an hour, but then it tripped. The latest trip was without anything plugged in, after which, I have left it be. I have felt the switch in the circuit board and the individual plug sockets immediately after tripping and nothing felt hot. Is there anything more I can try/do myself to potentially remedy the situation? In the current climate, I am not keen to have somebody come around unless the situation is dangerous, especially given that my wife is 7 months pregnant and so we are self isolating to a greater or lesser extent to avoid any potential problems for her and the baby. I have since plugged in the Sky box and TV with a long extension from another part of the house and it has worked fine. We can therefore make do for the time being until the covid situation eases. Unless, of course, it is dangerous to leave one of the trip switches in the off position. Any advice would be gratefully received.
