Plastering mistake - help needed!

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.31 PM

Hi everyone, I've accidently used Thistle Multi Finish as a bonding layer for some a small section of plastering in house (I had a complete blonde moment, used the wrong bag and am kicking myself for it!). I would say I've applied about 10mm of it (2 layers, PVA and water mixture as a sealant first) in total. I have the last 2mm to finish as the finishing coat. What would everyone recommend that I do? Should I wait a week to let the first 10mm dry, see if/how it cracks? Should I apply another PVA seal again? Any help would be recommended! PS it's on a small section of wall where a chimney breast used to be. The plaster has gone ontop of a cementitious coat which I used to seal brickwork.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Don't worry it will be fine, as long as it has bonded to the background then you will be fine. The only reason we normally use bonding coat (purple bag) is because it has exfoliated polystyrene in it which makes it lighter when its dry. No need to leave it to dry out, as long as it's set then you can apply the finishing coat. You can use multi finish for this also. The only back coat that you leave to dry out is sand and cement as it shrinks and cracks so you let all the shrinkage happen before you apply the finishing plaster, that way you won't get shrinkage cracks on the finished product. Multi finish doesn't shrink so no need to wait. Hope that helps 😊

I would chop it off and put on some hard wall or bonding and then apply the finish?
