How high can the council allow a tree to grow before they cut it back?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.40 PM
I have a very small front garden, with a 40ft plus pine tree 6 ft from my front door. This makes my house very dark, and takes up the whole of the front garden. Legally, how high can the council allow this to grow before they cut it back or can get rid of the tree ?

there could be the chance roots have penetrated your foundations for house
in this case you would have to keep the tree but can reduce in height. there are no height regs for the council but you will have to pay them if you own the property and are not a tenant. If your a tenant then it could take awhile for them to come and cut it for you. hope to of helped York Landscape &Tree Service's.

There is no set hight for which a tree is allowed to grow. It will be down to which ever council area the tree lies in and there tree officers discretion. Most councils will however keep an eye on certain trees and reduce accordingly as a health and safety issue may arise.if however the tree is causing structural damage either to a pavement and or to your property and is council owned they should deal with it. But with the cut backs you may find you may have to pay.ps also if the tree has a TPO on it you have some form filling in to do or the tree surgeon will do it if it gets that far.
