Packing out lintels

Hello. What material would you recommend to pack out the top of a lintel ? Load bearing wall above.Thank you.

Building control have decided slate is no longer to be used, structural speaking steel plate is the far better option for packing lintels or steels

You would need to do a dry pack mix of sharp sand and cement probably a 3 and 1 mix so it’s quite strong make sure the mix is not to wet it has to be like a screed mix ok

As a more professional job I would use steel packers or shims, as a cost effective method I would use slate, I have seen people use coins if it's very small like 2p or 1p coins, hope this helps.

I wouldn't use sand & cement mortar as this is compressable slates or steel packers as these will not compress if sited propley

The perfect solution is slate to get pack lintels or sand and cement before you lift steel into place hope this helps
