Bricklaying & Repointing

Facing Brickwork wall of extensions close to boundary

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

We are considering a rear and side wrap around single storey extension. My questions is how does the bricklayers point the wall when they won’t be able to access after is built? Do they point each course as they go? And if so does the excess mortar just drop in the gap or is there a way of stopping that too?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You need to enter into a party wall contract with your neighbour

Hello Biko If there is an access problem they will have to point every few courses as they go using a small mirror to check the pointing PJ

It all depends if you can access from the the neighbours side ask the neighbour if you can build from there side as it all ways looks better and they are looking at it all the time 9 out of ten times they will agree tell them you will replace fence and take extreme care if not it will have to be built over hand point in every 3 to 4 course

It would be best to agree access from the neighbours side to undertake the work if possible, however where this is not possible the brick work will be laid overhand and points as it progresses up which is not ideal but only available option. Any mortor will fall down the gap but the majority can be caught on a tarpaulin which is removed at the end of the work.
