Is a 16amp Radial ok to power tumble dryer and dishwasher simultaneously

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

I currently have a single socket fed from a 16 amp fuse on a radial socket feeding the dishwasher, I want to add a second single socket to feed a tumble dryer. When running both machines will i be ok on a 16 amp radial and 2.5mm T&E?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

An appliance runs on a 13amp fuse, therefore the max potential load is 26 amps. if both heaters energised simultaneously it would probably blow the 16 amp MCB

Depends what the appliances both pull max load. Look at the wattage (kilowatt) in the manufacturer’s instruction manual. You could change the mcb to a 20amp which would allow you an extra 4 amps. 2.5mm cable is rated at 27amps so the mcb would trip at 20 amps protecting the cable way before it drew that load.

my dishwasher and dryer are under a 13amp double socket on the ring and i never had any problems so you should be fine. worse case scenario your mcb will trip but both are not over 16amp.

Should be ok. You could change the 16 amp to a 20 amp.

If the cable is 2.5 I would change the mcb to a 20 amp thus would comply
