Who do I get to check whether porch foundations could hold an extension?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.40 PM

I want to extend my first floor bathroom out over my brick built porch way. It will be a first floor extension of approx 3 sq meters. Who do i get to check if the foundations of the porchway can hold this? a builder or someone from the planning dept at the council? Any advise would be great thank you!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You need to dig two or three trial holes down to the exististing porch foundations to prove the depth and thickness and the ask the builing control to make a site visit and inpect the foundations .They will say if your foundations are adiquate to support your extention

You need trial holes dug so the current foundations can be inspected. If you have the design of your new extension, your structural engineer will be able to tell you what loadings it will have. They can then look at the current foundations a if anything else needs to be added. It is also worth getting building control involved at this stage to make sure you are meeting all current regulations.
