stainless steel reinforcing bar for masonry repair or just repoint ?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.08 PM

A small area of brickwork external wall cracks appeared. The previous owner did single-storey kitchen extension. Should I use Helibar system or simple repoint ?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi ... the brickwork will have dropped a few millimetres due to the extension work , I would recommend using helibars to give extra strength with epoxy resin and then point over...

I would use the helibars as from my experience with them they are a great way to stop further cracking , if you were to just repoint it would more than like crack again

Hi, You can use simply repoint but this way don't stop cracks just hide it temporarily. Best way is to use crack stitching, is it a masonry repair technique that reconnects and reinforces cracked walls.

all depending on the size of the cracks i would recommend getting a structural engineer out to assess the work done by the previous owner. But in more cases than not this can be resolved using helibar and resin to add strength and then point over. Thanks
