Combi boiler not levelled

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.08 PM

I fear that the current property purchase I am going through was using a 'dodgy' installer for a large number of things. The combi boiler (Valliant ecotech plus 837 r1) is not levelled against the wall, maybe up to 5-10 degrees slanted. Surely this would not have passed the gas safety certification (assuming he even did one)? or can you legitimately not have it levelled.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi The appliance must be installed as per manufacturer's instructions. Ie if a requirement is set out in the installation instructions produced by the manufacturer that the appliance should be level (a schematic is usually provided for this) and the appliance is not, then clearly it has not been installed correctly. In the real world 1 degree makes little difference, that being said if its out and is visually noticable i would say its a shoddy job and the guy should have been more careful. Doesnt mean the appliance wont work properly or is unsafe. Just that its not been installed to the manufacturers specification. Hope that helps.

Hi, Uneven boiler hanged at the wall is a proof doesn’t look professional, but doesn’t constitute a danger. I would call Vailland and/or gas safe and check has your boiler been registered with them. If so, the installer had to he gas safe registered. I would also recommend to order gas safety check, so gas engineer would do all necessary tests to give 100% answer.

Hi, Your Boiler must be fitted to manufacturers instructions which would usually indicate to level the Bracket or jig plate. But it would not affect the safe working of the appliance. indicates more as you say just shoddy workmanship. If you have the original manufacturers instruction book the benchmark section usually found on the last two or three pages should have been filled out. Within the information provided by the installer you will be able to check their Gas safe number on the Gas safe website. (providing they have actually filled the benchmark out) I personally would recommend a gas safety inspection by a registered Gas safe Engineer. As if they haven't bothered to make sure the boiler is level they may have not bothered in other safety aspects which you may not be aware of.

5 degree out is too much not only does it look shoddy and unprofessional I have known this sort of installation to cause noise and rattling on the associated pipework
