When installing new doors should you paint new primed doors before or after hanging?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.28 PM

Looking to hire someone to hang new internal doors, have ordered them primed finish. Should I paint the top coat before or after they are hung?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Paint the top coat after its hung, you may need to adjust the door if it's being hung in an existing door liner, if that's the case, you'll need to paint it again.

After they are hung as during the process of hanging the door shaving and adaption may be required including cutting in hinges and locks

I would cut out and hang the door, then take it off to be primed. Then re-hang it.

paint the doors after fitting as you may need to plane the edges to fit.

its easier to paint after wards, just take off the handles and put masking tape on hinges as others stated the door may need shaving which will need to get painted anyway

It's always best practice to paint the doors after they have been fitted

My professional opinion would be to paint after they are hung, if they come unprimed I would prime before hanging
