Laying slabs at front of the house

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.28 PM

Hi I have some reclaimed concrete slabs 900 x600 I am wanting to lay them at the front of the house to put plant pots on. Do I need the mortar mix or would it be ok just to lay onto the flatenned soil.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi , if you lay them directly on soil there will be constant growth coming through...best to lay on a full bed of sand and cement mix .

You should lay on a good strong mix and leave a gravel trap near the house. It’s best to put a sub base down as well.

Always lay slabs on a mortar or concrete base!

Hi... if it was just used to place the slabs on then yes this would be ok but if it was also used as a useable area or pathway then a stronger base would be needed..

Being reclaimed slabs they will probably be 2" thick and if it's only To put plant pots on you can lay them on a sharp sand bed. As long as there Laid level to start, they won't be going anywhere!
