Who to get in for vague renovation costs?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.28 PM

My partner and I have purchased a maisonette in Bristol that requires some reconfiguration. Although we are still saving to actually do the work, we are looking for a somebody to pay a site visit that might be able to talk us through some of the elements we are looking at reconfiguring (mainly a chimney stack, a couple of interior walls, and knocking-through what appears to be an internal structural wall) so we have a very vague idea of the costs of each so we have a rough idea of how much we are needing to save. I'm not sure who is best to pay the property a visit to give us some general advice, a builder, architect, or structural engineer? Thanks in advance!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Personally I would start with a architect, who then may be able to recommend builders ect . But use my builder to source both and I think you won’t go far wrong

Hi guys Any decent builder will be able to give you a guide price for free. Then once you have saved you can contact a structural engineer for the wall removal calcs etc There shouldn’t be any need for an architect for this type of work.

Get a few builders from my builder that do structural work you ought to be able to get enough information without paying an architect or structural engineer to know roughly what to save he will also be able to advise on whether or not you will need an engineer to design something
