Combi boiler external vent is dripping (worse when heating or hot water is on)

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.28 PM

Recently moved in to a new house and I've noticed the black plastic external vent for the combi boiler is dripping. It's worse when the heating is on or we turn on the hot water. It's above some decking so seems to be causing some issues with the wood below. Is there anything I should check or anything I can do to address this?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Agree with Grate addition, the flue should run slight up from the boiler to allow condensate to run back into the boiler. If the flue has been put in without this angle, the condensate liquid will just drip out. It will always be worse when the boiler is on as that’s when it produces the condensate liquid. It’s reasonably easy to rectify, just needs the flue raising slightly from the exterior terminal and re sealing. Obviously whoever does it needs to be gas safe registered to ensure flue seals aren’t compromised in the process.

It sounds like your boiler flue isn’t angled correctly, it should be so the condense runs back into the boiler and evaporates. It is slightly acidic so this might be why it is ruining your decking.
