Applying k rend to existing house
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.28 PM
Hi I have been considering rendering my house using k rend or a similar product. It is a two storey house, with brick on the bottom and dash on the top. Would this be relatively east to achieve and would all of the existing doors and windows need to be replaced? I’d hope not to have to do this as they are in excellent condition. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you

Hi oisin i wouldn't say it would be easy to achieve. As all the existing render will need chipped off. And it can be lucky dip as to weather it comes of easy or is soild and a nightmare to get off. As for the windows n doors you wouldn't need to change them if they are in good condition. And the Krend application would be straight forward as well.

Hi Oisin,
The dash would definitely need to be removed completely before any rendering can take place. The render is only as good as its background and so would only be applied to the brickwork or blockwork. Removal of dash is a straightforward job but can take time depending on the metreage, the thickness and how well it was dashed years ago.
Windows and doors do not need to be replaced, these should all be protected by the renderer before any work is started.
The actual rendering itself is also usually straightforward for a good tradesman.

For the amount of effort and time it would take you...plus the 99 percent chance you’ll do an awful job you may as well just pay someone the labour who knows what they are doing.
