Chimney & Fireplace

Downstairs Chimney Flu

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.28 PM

Good Evening, I was in the process of having a logburner fitted in my cellar which has been tanked but hit a bit of an issue. The plasterboard has been removed to look up the chimney and there is a five and a half inch gap to the right which goes up around 2ft then bends sharply to the left. If looking at it from underneath there is a stone at a 45 degree angle blocking the rest of the chimney. Wondering if that stone is structural or not and if removed will it leave an unsupported chimney breast? Want it removed so that a liner could be dropped straight down if that makes sense? I can't add pictures but I do have some. The chimney in the basement was an original fireplace. It had a gas fire in many years ago. There is a chimney breast in the room above and in the room above that. The chimney stack is internal and there are no fireplaces in the house at all

Sounds strange.. but chimneys have to get around the chimneys above. I would get it swept. The sweep be cheapest was to check chimney. But if you need to remove a lardge stone get a builder in..

It would need a hetas engineer to inspect the property and chimney brickwork support survey required.
