How to attach hardwood cladding to back of kitchen bench/island cabinets?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.28 PM

I have a 'U'-shaped kitchen, where one side juts out into the room, so I want to clad the back of this bench/island (which is currently hides the back of the cabinet with one large flat sheet of melamine board) with hardwood cladding stripwood. The stripwood will probably be Oak, 1 inch wide and about half inch thick strips, spaced about 5mm apart. What's the best method to attach this to the back of the cabinets? Nail gun? Grab adhesive?

16 gauge pins and smaller can be used in conjunction with a grab adhesive in hardwood where you have a decent filler

I would use a nail gun with short nails , cannot be sure that adhesive will hold the boards so always make sure and fix securely by nailing never glue . Garry
